The BEST place to get any and all your hunting needs! Dove hunting is personally my favorite thing to do at First Shot, great atmosphere and birds fly like never seen before, no doubt you will get your limit within first couple hours if not sooner. Mike and Monica are great host and really care about their customers, they make a really great team! Mike's steaks are one of the best steaks I have ever eaten, and of course Monica and her many many amazing recipes are fantastic as well! First Shot Outfitters is the place to go!!

I've personally hunted Dove and Deer with them, however my husband has done it all...Quail, Dove, Duck, Deer, Pigs... their hunts are above anywhere else we have hunted! My brother and I shared two full days of hunting turkeys with Mike Wyatt. Even though we were challenged by the rainy weather, Mike pushed hard the whole day to make sure we had good opportunities. We did collect one nice gobbler and should have had two, but Mike cannot control hunter error. We had a great time, enjoyed great food, lodging and company. A quality hunt all the way around. This is an unsolicited review. My family and I just returned from a pig hunt with First Shot. We had an amazing time. Aspin, Trotter and Seth all went above and beyond to make our experience perfect. The lodge was better than the pictures and extremely comfortable. The food was excellent and plentiful. We accomplished all we set out to do on this trip and these boys made it happen. We are already planning on returning next year

I have turkey hunted all over the country for the last 21 years. You never know what to expect from outfitters that you’ve never hunted with. I was more than pleased with our recent hunt. My party of three all killed gobblers. This was real turkey hunting. The lodging and food were very nice. The guides, Mike W and Trotter, were exceptional woodsmen and callers. Mike and Monica Wyatt were most gracious hosts. Monica’s sister, Ivy, prepared our meals like a pro. Accolades to the whole team. See you next April!

Well, what more can I possibly add. 6 of us just returned home from a 2 day turkey hunt. We all brought home nice gobblers. Mike, Monica, Abigail, and Aspen took excellent care of our group. Everything was 1st class. Our guides were real turkey hunters! I’ve been turkey hunting for 22 years and I picked up some nice tips. See you next April!

Mike and Monica are wonderful. I am a new hunter and couldn’t have picked a better place to start my journey. In just a 3 night 2 day stay I got a wild boar, a buck and a doe.
Mike was incredibly helpful in the stand and walked me through all the way up to taking the shot. He also answered every question I had about any and all kinds of hunting… and there were a lot. He taught me about gutting, cutting, and quartering. I was allowed to do as much or as little as I was comfortable with in the process while he still helped me to learn.
Monica is a fantastic host and amazing cook and made my stay absolutely wonderful. She had coffee ready to brew when I woke up and a delicious breakfast burrito ready to take with us in the morning. We returned from every hunt to a much needed warm meal and sweet tea. I learned if you need anything you just need to ask her and she will make sure you are taken care of.
I truly felt right at home at FSO and would love to come back with friends and family. The lodge is beautiful and cozy. The beds are very comfortable and the sheets are nice and soft. Anyone that comes to FSO is sure to have a pleasant trip start to finish.

My dad and I went on a 2 day management deer hunt with Mike and Trotter at First Shot Outfitters and it was an awesome experience. Such an involved family and such a fun time. Went this past September on a dove hunt with FSO. This was our 2nd time going with them & they did not disappoint. Our guide (Trotter) was most accommodating & did a great job catering to us and our group. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time & a great hunt. Highly recommend him. My son and I just finished a Rio hunt with First Shot Outfitters. I am certain you can find a cheaper outfitter in Texas, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Mike and Monica run a first-class operation. The lodging is welcoming, clean and comfortable. The food is amazing. I was a little worried about having a 2-day hunt, but the guides work very hard at putting you on birds. I will be back myself and will 100% recommend First Shot to anyone I know.

What an amazing trip!! I did an early trophy hunt with Mike and his guys on Halloween 2023! There were 3 hunters during my stay and all tagged out! I can't say how good these guys are and how hard try try to get you on a great buck! Food... amazing! Cabin... perfect! I'd never hunted Texas and now I'm hooked! The quality of game, and placement of blinds is awesome! Top notch outfit and I highly recommend them to everyone!

Mike, Monica, Aspin and the entire outfit are outstanding. First rate, top notch and the best outfit you can choose. I've hunted with many outfitters and First Shot Outfitters are far better than any I've known... even the good ones. My management whitetail was a trophy by most standards. Aspin is now my favorite guide to have I've ever worked with... skilled, friendly and an overall great guy. I hope to have a chance to work with him again. Monica's meals were great, the best I've had with any outfitter and you felt like you were sharing your time with friends and family during and after dinner. This experience was top notch! These guides will do anything to get you on a bird. Mike the owner truly cares and it shows. Best food I’ve had at a lodge by far by Mrs. Ivy! These people make you feel like family from the moment you walk through that door. If you’re on the fence about it, BOOK IT! You truly won’t be disappointed! Everybody in the lodge went home with a bird this weekend. I am amazed by the success rate.

If I could recommend any guide I would recommend David Tidwell he will work super hard and will for sure get you on a turkey very knowledgeable and provided exceptional service! Went on my first ever spring turkey hunt with David Tillman as my guide. We were on Turkeys all morning and the first morning i took two really nice tom’s!!!!!! I will definitely be back. Lodging was great and meals were amazing!!!!!! Everyone there made you fill right at home!!!!!

First class outfitter, everything was awesome from the smiles and the warm welcomes when you first walk in the door right up until you shake hands and say goodbye. The food was absolutely amazing, everybody was very helpful and courteous, lots and lots of land to hunt. My guide Trotter, was on point he hustled we went different areas and we got on a bird the second morning. I highly recommend you give this outfitter a good look when you’re looking to plan your hunt.!!

This is an unsolicited review. We just got back from a pig hunting weekend at First Shot. We were a crew of 7 with 4 teenagers or young adults. Everyone had an amazing time. Aspin, Trotter and Seth were all excellent guides. They went above and beyond to make sure that everyones hunt was successful. The lodge is beautiful and online pictures don't do it justice. Brenda, our cook, made sure we were all fed well and often. We couldn't say enough about the whole experience. We have already made plans to go back next year.

This place is by far the best outfit I have ever visited. The staff was great and the best part is we probably saw fifty mature gobblers. And about two hundred birds total. There is no place like this in the world. I highly recommend this to anyone that wants the experience of a life time.

From the moment we arrived to the Lodge everything was perfect. The Lodge was amazing and seemed like we were staying at a 5 star resort, beautiful and extremely clean. The food was absolutely incredible and everything was homemade. The Amaretto bread pudding was the best I’ve ever had. Our turkey hunt was successful, action packed and Mike is an awesome turkey caller. Mike took great care of us the whole time. We definitely recommend booking a hunt from them. We will be back, that’s for sure and can’t wait!!

We all had high hopes coming in, even knowing we had such a large group and how not so easy it could be to accommodate all of us… Aspin and co. far well exceeded our already high expectations!!! Not only did we kill a ton on top of a ton of birds, they were all very personal and treated you like family! And last but absolutely not least, we are from Louisiana, we LOVE good food and can be tough critics, But I didn’t take one bite of anything that I didn’t say was some of the BEST food I’ve ever ate. I can’t speak enough on that, Monica must have some Cajun roots. First Shot Outfitters just gained some repeat customers for sure! Can’t wait to see y’all next year!!!!

Texas Quail Hunting with Mike Wyatt and First Shot Outfitters is the best I've seen in 30+ years of quail hunting. All wild birds are expected in Texas, and Mike has ranches with unusual amounts of quail on them. We usually just hunt coveys, and maybe follow up one or two singles so we aren't too hard on the numbers. Frequently I hunt the last days of the long Texas season with Mike, and we still put up 20+ coveys of bobwhites a day, and easily take our limit. Mike has his own lodge to house hunters, and hunts guys in groups of 2-3/guide. This is the real deal, and very hard to find these days.
Mike also does wonderful spring turkey hunts, and whitetail in the fall. We've hunted turkey with him, and Char took a nice tom the first day.

I’ve hunted with First Shot Outfitters several times. My friends and I make quail and turkey a yearly event. Growing up in the South, quail hunting is an institution. I don’t get to shoot wild quail like my father did; but First Shot takes care of that problem for me. They are incredibly serious about their hunting. They take great pride in true “wild” hunting. I’ve hunted hundreds of thousands of acres with them, never hunting the same acreage twice. The guides and dogs perform like clockwork, but with wild bobwhites/blues the challenge is great and my shooting sometimes lacking. That’s why I love it. Wild birds, awesome dog work and flushes, and taking some birds while missing others. Their intense focus on habitat/game/hunt management translates into the Turkey Hunts as well. I’m an avid Turkey Hunter. I hunt all up down the East Coast and have taken many a wild Tom, but hunting Rio’s with First Shot is special. First of all, you’re hunting big country (hundreds of thousands of acres) with healthy populations of Birds. Rio’s are aggressive, so as a caller you have to be as well. I’ve seen cagey birds run at the decoy with just the right call. I’ve also seen cagey birds tease us, and run away. You can be sure of a few things: 1) You’re going to hear/see some nice Toms, 2) You’re going to call to them and hear them call back 3) Your going to have a thrill hunting them; but getting a shot and killing a big tom is up to you. You’ll work hard, have great hunt, and more likely than not get that big RIO long beard or two. If you get a chance, ask about the bird that jumped the creek to get to us. It was an hour of patient calling followed by 10 minutes of shear panic!!!
The folks at First Shot are every bit as professional about the hospitality of the lodge and accommodations as well. I’ve stayed in two different lodges with them and the atmosphere doesn’t differ between the two. You always have plenty of drinks, nice accommodations, a warm mesquite fire to warm yourself by, and a ton of conversation. Mrs. Monica makes sure that you eat the best for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. It’s the only time I can think of where I hunt hard, walk a lot, and still gain weight. Her recipes are featured in several wild game cookbooks. Her deadliest weapons on me are the Pecan Pie and Quail Poppers, man she puts a hurting on me!
If you like to hunt wild game, these are the guys, they have hundreds of thousands of acres. They are professional hunters that take great pride in their talents right down to the smallest details. Their lodges are first class, food is out of the world, and the hunting is premier. If you want an easy canned hunt, don’t bother calling, it would just insult them.
